Anderson Reading Clinic

The Anderson Reading Clinic remains the only university-based clinic in North Carolina that offers year-round teacher training, along with diagnostic and remedial reading services to children in the community. Under the direction of Dr. Devery Ward, the clinic provides direct service to children with reading problems. Additionally, an important function of the clinic is to train expert teachers of reading to work in public schools.

Community

The Anderson Reading Clinic serves Watauga County K-8 students.

Each child receives approximately 15 hours of one-to- one reading and writing instruction Monday through Thursday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on App State's campus in the RCOE Room 328 E.

Would you like your students to participate? Contact Dr. Devery Ward for more information.

App State Students

The Anderson Reading Clinic provides the opportunity for education majors to learn to teach reading by "doing it" – by teaching children directly while receiving guidance and constructive feedback from the experienced clinic supervisory staff. The hands-on teaching experience or clinical training is the most effective way to develop effective reading teachers for our public schools.
