Department of Child Development, Literacy and Special Education

Jenny McCourry is a lecturer. She holds an M.A. in reading education and a B.S. in elementary education, both from Appalachian State University.

She is National Board Certified in early childhood education and taught first grade for seven years in the North Carolina public school system before coming to teach at App State.

Jenny teaches various courses pertaining to literacy development and serves as a university supervisor for clinical interns during their student teaching semester. She believes in making learning accessible to all students and that while not every child learns in the same way- every child has the ability and right to read.

Her research focuses on early childhood education, reading education, literacy development, and science of reading.
