Dr. Susan Aigotti is an assistant professor of special education at Appalachian State University. She earned her Ph.D. in special education from the University of Virginia, with a focus on mathematics interventions for students with disabilities. Prior to joining Appalachian State University, she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on coaching in-service teachers and using AI to support special education teachers and vocabulary instruction. Before her academic career, she taught in public elementary and middle schools in Virginia, working extensively with students with diverse learning needs. Her research focuses on enhancing mathematics outcomes for students with learning disabilities and training special educators to implement effective, evidence-based practices in inclusive settings.
Aigotti was one of the 2022 Doctoral Student Scholars for the CEC Division of Research.
She is involved in many professional organizations, including the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) - Teacher Education Division (CEC) and Division for Research (CEC).
