Dr. Susan Hedges

Dr. Susan Hedges is an assistant professor of special education and director of the Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program (SDAP).

She earned a Ph.D. in education with a focus on special education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Her research interests include technology supports for students with autism, enhancing whole school environments in support of students with autism, and, improving post-school outcomes for secondary students with autism.

She holds North Carolina teaching certification in Special Education(K-12), Learning Disabilities (K-12), Middle School Math, English (9-12), Social Studies (9-12), French (K-12).She has worked in North Carolina schools for 16 years as a volunteer, substitute teacher, general and special educator, coach, and researcher.

She has presented at national and international conferences and her published work can be found in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disabilities,Autism, Exceptional Children, and Remedial and Special Education.
